It is with immense pride that I stand here today, speaking on the 62nd Anniversary of the 62nd Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka. The pride comes from the achievement of greater freedom. Today Sri Lanka stands united as a single nation, an undivided country. Let me remind you that today, today is not just another 4th of February, today is not just the completion of 62 years after independence. Today, after 20 years, we are celebrating independence, independence from colonial clutches, and independence from terror and fear.

It is especially encouraging to note that a noteworthy event of this nature has been organised by the Tamil Nadu Muslim Graduates Association in Chennai, which would not only provide motivation but also highlight the importance of education to the youth of this generation.
