| PROFILE V. KRISHNAMOORTHY DEPUTY HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR SRI LANKA IN SOUTHERN INDIA H.E the President has appointed Mr. Vadivel Krishnamoorthy as the Deputy High Commissioner to Chennai, India with effect from 1st August 2009. Mr. Vadivel Krishnamoorthy, who grew up from Hatton, Sri Lanka, received his primary and secondary education at Highlands College, Hatton Sri Lanka. He proceeded to do his Bachelors in Arts (BA) at the University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka, and his Master of Arts (MA) at Monash University in Australia. He has been a civil servant for 29 years, of which the last 17 years he spent in the Foreign Service. He last served as the High Commissioner in Bangladesh from 2006 to 2009. Prior to serving in Bangladesh, he was the Director-General of the UN and Multilateral Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for two years (2004-2006), when he also attended the 60th United Nations General Assembly session in New York, and the Board of Governors Meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna. Previously, he served in various capacities in the Netherlands (2001-2004) and China (1992-1997). While serving as the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Netherlands, inter alia, he functioned as the Deputy Permanent Representative to the Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). He also worked as the Director/East Asia (1997-1999), Deputy Chief of Protocol (1999-2001), Assistant Director/West (1992) and Director/ Sri Lankan Institute of International Relations (2004-2006). Beforehand, he was involved in the education services sector, serving in various capacities. He is married and has two daughters. |
